My awesome blogging friends Who will be # 130?

It's Thursday and time to link for the last letter of the alphabet with Jenny and all you letter lov'n guys and gals out there.

Make sure you check out all the other Z posts and return next week for Alphabe-soup and then summer school colors of the rainbow at the same blogspot. http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/

There was no question in my mind what I would post for the letter Z

is
for
Zermatt

We left our  hearts in Switzerland
(I know the real saying is Heidelberg which we do love because
that's where we lived but it's Z not H)

Herzlich willkommen!

Heartfelt welcome!

geographical coordinates: 46° 1' 0" North, 7° 45' 0" East
geographical location: Valais, Genferseeregion, Switzerland,

Quite streets of cobblestone.
Roofs of slivered Slate.
View of the Matterhorn
Our favorite spot in the world
Zermatt,  Switzerland

Sitting at the foot of the Matterhorn 4477m towering high above the village this  little town is one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited.
All pictures are ones I scanned in from our photo album except the train and car which are from google images.

Take the Gornergratbahn (cog train) from Tasch

No cars
they have little electric cars for deliveries

Therefore no smog

Clean air
(so clean my brother-in-law walked into a glass window when in town-no he wasn't hurt well, just his pride) )

We stayed in the Hotel Mischabel this was in 1983 and is still advertised on line. Wouldn't it be wonderful to go back, and stay in the same hotel! Hey Ann and Gary are you packed yet?

We had a beautiful view of the majestic Matterhorn room our room window.

We hiked which by the way is the ONLY way you can get there.up to a smaller hamlet called ZMutt We took the picture of our daughter and son on the rail by the trail at the restaurant (sorry about the quality of the picture on the left.  The frame it was in got wet and I can't find the original.)

 We stopped in at the
Restaurant Jägerstube

We spent a couple of days in Zermatt on our 21 day journey through Italy, Switzerland, Southern Germany and France.
At one restaurant in Zermatt  I remember having  Cheese Fondue, Raclettes; a cheese dish with potatoes and sweet pickles. Our meat was cooked on a small griddle at our table.  I still have the one I bought and bring it out once in awhile for special parties.
I'm sure our waitress would remember us...she caught her sleeve on fire!

Make sure you go to  and check out all the other great Abphabe-Thursday posts.

This is a picture of my sister and I  (Tinandsparkle) Ann is the one in the striped shirt.  This was taken on the same trip but at the Heidelberg Castle. Just thought I would throw it in for fun. OH how young we were! Now our Grandchildren are the age our children were when we had this fabulous vacation. Thank you US Army for taking us there!

These are two very different paintings I have done.  Both are Zermatt.  The one the rock (aprox. 10" high)  is actually painted on a piece of slate we picked up on a walk  in Zermatt.

What a lovely post. I love Zermatt too - and I remember my experience with Raclette there. I went right out and bought a raclette machine. Whenever we get it out I think of wonderful times in Switzerland.
