1843 Holy Bible -
and the story behind it.
It's tattered and torn... but then it is 168  years old!

These photos do not do justice to the beautiful lithography

There are some stains on some of the pages.  I like to think they were tear drops from someone who loved God's word.

In early 1980's my husband was  working for the government on a contract job at the Heidelberg Army base in Germany.  While there We also pastored a small group of believers on Friday evenings and then supported the Military Chapel on Sundays.
One Friday an Englishman visited the service, very intoxicated. He was actually arguing with Bob while he was preaching.  God did a miraculous work.  By the end of the sermon the man was completely, unmistakably sober.  He gave his heart to Christ and asked for prayer for his family.
He was going through a divorce.

About three months later he visited again, a very different person.  God had heard his prayers, restored his marriage and they were all attending church in their hometown in England.  He was an antique dealer and brought us this beautiful Bible as a gift of thanks.
He could have been ushered out of the service that first Friday night but instead, many of those there, were quietly praying as he argued.
We never heard from him again but know we will see him again in Heaven.

So this book holds much more than antique value.
It hold the promise of forgiveness and new life.

Hi Deborah,

Wow, I am blown away by this story! What an awesome testimony!! I love reading and hearing stories like this. The 168-year-old bible is incredible as well. What a story that will tell as you flip through its pages.

I wish these things would happen more often in my life and the lives of those I'm praying for daily. I guess in His timing. Thanks for stopping by my photography blog. I also have a devotional writing blog at http://virtuouswomanministry.blogspot.com. I invite you to stop by there as well. Take care.

Blessings,
Judy

What a wonderful testimony about this man. I love old Bibles and at one time wanted to start collecting them. I haven't started yet but maybe someday.
God Bless,
Ginger

How awesome! What a blessing your church family was to him, and he to you, and now all of you to us. And what joy to learn of yet another sweet miracle surrounding the Word of God. Thank you for a sweet smile today.

So, so special. God's Word is always a treasure, but this even more because it speaks of God's faithfulness and mercy.
