ABC Wednesday - G

od
My plan is to do mine with things or people I am Grateful for!

God is the one who controls the winds.
I just stumbled on ABC Wednesday when visiting another blog.  I had so much fun with something similar a few years back I thought I would join in. Make sure you go back and visit others who have linked with ABC Wednesday around the world

Water rescue

Hi welcome to the Paint Splash!  Hope you enjoy your visit.

This past week we had a horrid wind storm that took a much loved double swing
for a ride across the lake.  I got a phone call from a neighbor, she and her
husband had seen our swing floating.  None of us have our boats in the water yet, they are all still wrapped and winterized, so he offered to take his cannoe out to try to bring back our wayward swing set.  Now you must know it is not a light weight set.  It has two triangle frame ends plus the top bar and swing all constructed from wood. The wind was still quite strong and very cold.  I was not very comfortable with him going out with the wind still blowing but armed with rope and paddle he forged into the cold water.

After fighting the wind and bringing back one of the ends he was really tired.  The wind was so strong he had to come back to house 3 lots down.  We got that peice on land and pulled in the boat.  We would just need to take our losses. The husband realized as fast as the wind was blowing the rest of the set was on the other side of the lake and we had no idea which way the wind would take it.
The neighbor actually got in his car, drove 4 miles around the lake and found the set!
He tied it to a dock and he and my honey rescued it Sunday.
We have amazing neighbors!
On Saturday we were able to visit with some friends from a Layfette where we lived while Hubby was doing his doctorate at Purdue  We had not seen these great friends in years and were so happy that they wanted to drive down to see our place and visit. We hung out and visited then took a drive.  They knew of a place called Clinton Falls and The Eagle Nest.  It was proably only a 30 minute drive from our place.  So we jumped in their van (our car is too small for 4 for any long ride) and were out to find these spots.

Clinton Falls, how wonderful a sound I hope to have a picnic on that rock this summer.

The Eagle nest.  It has been here for years and the eagles should be back in the spring!
I am looking forward to going back and getting mor pictures.  It is amazing, proabaly 3 foot across.

Then we went to a small cafe, bar called the Fluttering Duck.
We were told it was a coffee shop in the 1920's on DePauw campus.
Have a grreat week!

What is the most unique thing you own?

That is the question for the 7th Tell Me Tuesday with Suzanne over at Colorado Lady. and is also great for Vintage Thursday that is also hosted by Suzanne

This is a bit harder question to answer.  Like Suzanne, I have sever things I would consider unique and treasures, but will only share the history and picture of one.

When I found out I was expecting our first child we went to an auction with my mother in law.  There was a beautiful wood highchair that had a clip on porcelain tray.
We had bid up as high as we felt we could, my husband was enlisted army, and we had an antique dealer bidding against us.  When we stopped bidding the dealer was so happy...until Grandma, to be, stepped in to bid.  He took one look at her determined face and quit bidding!  If I remember right we paid $35. for it. That was 37 years ago.  An older man, who had been the previous owner, stopped us later and said that it had been in his family as long as anyone could remember and that it had come to Kansas on a covered wagon!  Part of the uniqueness is that  any I have seen either the tray or clips were gone.  The foot rest is sitting waiting to have the pegs redrilled, someone used it as a ladder...
The tray is on a swival and was used at the table until our son was about 4.

The high chair still sits in our dinning room and is used anytime little ones come to visit.

Blessings and enjoy thinking about your answer to this weeks question.

Brown Wrapping paper book

In March my hubby has to go to London for business.
At the end of his business, one of my granddaughters and I will join him for a week trip.
We will get to celebrate her 16th birthday there. We plan on going from London on the fast train to Paris, then drive south, visit the French coast and drive to Pisa and Venice!
I only wish I was taking all of the grands...  The other 4 live in Texas and are so busy it would be hard to get the time but someday we WILL make it work.

For the trip I decided to make a brown paper book for Lu lu as she likes to calls herself.

I realized after the fact it would have been MUCH eaiser to just cut the pages 10x16, fold and glue together to strengthen. Punching holes in the accordian was very difficult.  I ended up using a small drill.  Then had to cut some of the pages because I decorated them too close together and needed some blank pages just for her to write on.  LESSON LEARNED.

I used very strong magnetics  on the inside of the front flap and also inside the ribbon I glued in to close the book
Most pictures are just printed off google images.  I used scrapebook paper to make most of the pockets.
Love the blues in the flags against the brown wrapping paper.

on the inside of the first page I made a pocket by using some cushioned tape around the three edges the brown ribbon makes the edge of the pocket a bit sturdier to resist tears.   The top of the map is glued to the page.
The tag says ticket stubs.

I put in several pockets with writting paper that she can journal on.

some pages are blank so she can write or add a postcard or photo.

These circles have lines she can jot down a few things o n.  Everywhere you see ribbon is the top of a pocket.
Hope you enjoyed this little project.
Blessings, Debbie

Tell me Tuesday Song

What songs bring back really great moments in your life?

This  one is a no brainer for me!  I only have one of my albums left from days gone by...

My all time favorite song was by the Mammas and the Papas

"This is dedicated to the one I Love"
While I'm far away from you, my baby,
I know it's hard for you, my baby,
Because it's hard for me, my baby,
And the darkest hour is just before dawn -

Each night before you go to bed, my baby,
Whisper a little prayer for me my baby.
And tell all the stars above
This is dedicated to the one I love.

Love can never be exactly like we want it to be.
I could be satisfied knowing you love me.
There's one thing I want you to do especially for me -
And it's something that everybody needs.

While I'm far away from you, my baby,
Whisper a little prayer for me, my baby,
Because it's hard for me, my baby,
And the darkest hour is just before dawn.

If there's one thing I want you to do especially for me
Then it's something that everybody needs...

Each night before you go to bed, my baby,
Whisper a little prayer for me, my baby,
And tell all the stars above -
This is dedicated to the one I love.
This is dedicated (to the one I love)
This is dedicated to the one I love
This is dedicated (to the one I love)
This is dedicated...

My boyfriend and I only lived in the same town 6 months of the 3 years we dated. Whenever I got really lonely I would put this album on a play it over and over.

Oh and you can't forget to burn the Intimate scented candle!

In fact my younger sister, by 9 years, still knows all the songs too.

It's hard to believe that was 40 years ago. My how time flys.
Joining a new party at Colorado Lady, come by and check it out!

Valentine Special

For Valentines Day I decided to do something very different, cook at home.
As an empty next family we tend to eat out way too often.  I overheard my husband tell someone a few weeks ago that his favorite meal was meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and cherry pie.  SO....

Mmmmm it was so good with vanilla ice cream!

Who says meatloaf and potatoes have to be boring?
I cut out the letters Love  with cookie cutters then covered them with pepper so they would show up.

I love the opportunity to use myVINTAGE white tablecloth from Italy.  I is now 30 years old so I don't use it often!  My hubby insisted on a picture of me at the table.  He is so sweet!  Then HE did the dishes.

He truly is one of the best men in the world.
I am so blessed to have him in my life, 40 years now and still in love!
Doesn't he have the most amazing smile!

Of course I couldn't forget the Grand kids and our grown children.
these went out in the mail with lots of love.

made with love wreath

For Christmas I received this beautiful wreath made by my daughter.  I have it hanging on our front door now that I have taken all the winter decorations down.  I am READY for spring, even though it has been an easy winter compared to some.
Love all the handmade flowers.  So much love went into this!

Thanks for stopping by and visiting.

Hope you will visit again.

Super INDY

Super Bowl Sunday has come and gone
for another year.

INDIANA -- The verdict is in: Indianapolis put on what was perhaps the most universally praised performance in the history of Super Bowl host cities. WRTV Indianapolis‎
Congratulations
to New York Giants, at least one of the
Manning family got to play in our dome for the Super Bowl!

Living just a short drive from the city I wanted to go into town SOOOO bad BUT...

unfortunately my left foot is in a cast for the next 6 to 8 weeks and I'm not supposed to walk on it...
A bone spur tore the bursa

What is a bursa?
Every person has hundreds of bursa scattered throughout the body. The function of a bursa is to decrease friction between two surfaces that move in different directions.
    • The bursa can be thought of as a Ziplock bag with a small amount of oil and no air inside. Imagine rubbing this bag between your hands; movement of your hands would be smooth and effortless. That is what a bursa functions as--a smooth, slippery surface between two moving objects.
I really hope it heals quickly because we are going to Europe for 11 days in March!
So I copied some pictures from Google.
Hopefully I didn't get any that had a  copy write.

Our beautiful stadium

One of the new hotels that went up in the last 3 years with the super bowl in mind.  We have a wonderful city with a large conference center so I know this will stay busy.
The zip line that was the largest in the US
I heard the waiting line was several hours!

This beautiful memorial is worth coming to town if you are close.

Another banner on one of the buildings downtown.
One of the praises was that everything was within walking distance
of the stadium and many of the hotels.
We spent the evening with wonderful friends watching the game and eating way too much.  Such a great game! One of our friends brought a door prize given away during half time and my husband won!!! So my honey took home the game ball!

Hope you enjoyed your tour of the Super Bowl city  for 2012
Enjoy visiting others who have joined these parties!
