Vintage Buildings and Statues

Travel is one of my favorite things!

When I think of vintage it is normally some object that I own but today I want to share something a bit different.  We have been on three Missions trips to Quito Ecuador on one of these trips we took an evening for a dinner at a restaurant in the Old city of Quito.  The restaurant was beautiful. Quito [1] is the capital of Ecuador. It was founded in 1534 on the ruins of an ancient Inca city.

These beautiful statues are in the center of the Old Town.

Pink Pigs
These aren't the best pictures, it was before I had a digital camera.

Yes I really did have a customer that wanted pink pigs painted in the children's guest room.  The room was set up as a tv room with a futon  that when one of the two girls had over night company they could use the "guest room"  These pigs were in the children's favorite colors Pink and Purple.  Although very different it was a real hit with the home owner and her girls.

 Happy Birthday to my beautiful daughter.

This picture was taken of our daughter on her  first day at home. wrapped up in her soft pink blanket.  We lived in a small village about 20 minutes outside Heidelberg Germany.  Our neighbor, Tanta Heidi was the first person other than her daddy and I to hold her.  Tanta Heidi was a fascinating woman.  She was 88 in this picture.  He husband had died many years before.  She was a East German princess who's family had lost everything when fleeing during the war for their lives.  Her husband was a foreign corespondent for the Hearst Newspaper.  He was on the first exploration to the North pole!  She had pictures of times she had traveled with him on assignment.  She had lived for a month in Benito Mussolini Castle. 
 She was the first foreign woman to christen an american ship.  In her small apartment was a wall of pictures of her and princes and many other famous people.

Sunday is our daughters  birthday.  

She is such an amazing young woman.  Busy mother of 4 she is always on the run.  

She is a nurse in the level 3 neo-natle ward of a large children's hospital.  She loves those little babies as if they were her own. I miss her so much and wish I could give her a big hug rather than a card and check...She really doesn't like her picture but for just this once, I want to show her off.

Heidelberg, Germany
We took these photos when we lived in Heidelberg in the 70 and 80"s

This view was taken from the Castle.  I always loved the red tile roofs. The church at the left center of the picture is the Holy Ghost Church.  Don't miss the  beautiful bridge across the river.
The tall white turrets are at the entrance of the bridge.  The city is built on the edge of the Neckar River .

My husband took this picture on the Castle grounds after we had had a picnic and day out with our children who were 4 and 6 at the time.

  I found these addorable bunnies  at Marshells when in town a week ago.  

They remind me so much of the big candy bunnies my parents bought us for Easter when I was young.

I have them on my fireplace mantel in our livingroom.
