I don't think I even realized at the time that I could hire my own guide. As it was, we were one of those folks who paid the exorbitant price the cruiseline charged. Like you, I was particularly moved by the loss of life in Pompeii and the incredible architecture of this ancient city. You photos really bring up memories of that trip for me.
